Justice : Manipulate and Conceal

I was waiting in my Accountant's office today for a while. She was doing a little training session for me regarding my Quicken software and the correct way to set up my categories. In between her speaking to me and her perusal of my Quicken data I had supplied on a Zip Drive, I picked up a magazine to read.

The magazine was a title I had never seen before. It was for Brown University Alumni. A picture of a blonde woman was on the cover and the caption read something about her being fired from the U.S. Justice Department. The article sounded interesting to me so I read on as much as I could before I had to speak with my Accountant Deborah again.

I was not able to finish the article but I read enough to know what she had been fired for. She was a graduate from Brown University in 1992. She was a Phi Beta Kappa and an Officer of her Class and was very much involved with Campus Politics, including getting the University to set up stricter codes for malficent sexual behavior. (involving several women she knew who had been either date raped or sexually harrassed). After graduating she attended Yale Law School and entered into the Intern program of the U.S. Department of Justice( DOJ).

Very bright and motivated, she landed a job at the DOJ directly out of Law School. On a specific day she was 'manning' the phones to be on call to advise Federal lawyers who called in with questions or situations to handle. One such call came in to her involving what the FBI should do as far as waiving Miranda Rights to a young American Terrorist by the name of John Lindh. Unbeknownst to him, his parents had already procured an attorney for their son. The woman ( believe her name was Radker) informed the person who had called in that it was legally important to read those rights to Mr. Lindh and to make sure that he was aware that he had a right to an attorney.

What came down was this. The FBI went ahead and waived those rights. When John Ashcroft was questioned regarding the FBI's decision, he stated that John Lindh , at the time of his detainment did not know that his parents had already gone to an attorney, and that some mumbo jumbo legalese was correct in what the FBI lawyers had decided to do.

Ms. Radker understood Ashcroft's reasoning to a certain extent. She had lost a friend in one of the Twin Towers on 9/11 and her office had been close enough to the Pentagon to see the huge plume of smoke in the wake of the plane crash that dove into a wing of the Pentagon. She was sympathetic. But if Mr. Lindh had been allowed his rights as a citizen, Ms. Radker believes, among other things, that it would not have been such a severe sentence.

Unfortunately I was not able to read the last part of this article. But the gist of it was that apprently the DOJ wanted her to remain silent about what her advise had been that day and to lie and that she had refused. Now she is out of a job. This bright, capable woman is out of work because she wanted to remain honest.

Think about it. What is Treason? What is Truth? What would you do in the same situation? What did your parents teach you? The bottom line is that the FBI already had enough evidence to know that Lindh, although fighting with the Taliban, was not an official leader of the Taliban or cohort of Osama Bin Laden. There would have been no threat to our country if John Lindh had been read his Miranda Rights.

I read another article about the lies of Government. It was in an article in the L.A Times yesterday. But this was something that had happened more than 50 years ago! That will be Part II.
