House Hunters

I have been getting lax with everything. Maybe I am just too tired to do it all. But I can think of a couple of reasons why I did not go into my office to 'take care of things' that had to be done over the last few weeks, and I opted for the T.V. instead. That is usually not the norm for me, as I do not watch that much T.V. However I'm pretty convinced that most of us get addicted to at least one or two shows at some point in time.

It's a Reality Show naturally.......isn't that what you guys have become addicted to? However my addiction is to a channel. It's called HGTV. Before you fall off your seat with laughter, hear me out.

I watch Divine Design with Candice Olson and Painted House with Debbie Travis, usually followed by Design on a Dime, What You Get For Your Money,Designer's Challenge, and of course House Hunters. Candice and Debbie can turn the most boring, benign, bad taste living places into House Decor you might find in Architectural Digest or Town and Country Magazine.

I usually don't pine away watching commercials for things I can't afford to buy. But lately I 'pine' a lot, wishing that Debbie or Candice would come over to my very humble abode to design, and change everything around for me for free!

The House Hunters is very cool. A couple or single person is hooked up with a Real Estate Agent to find their perfect house. I always wonder how these middle class people can afford to buy any large house, especially in California, where most of these shows seem to be filmed from. I mentioned a couple of times in previous Blog Entries that houses in California are priced out of reach for many people. $700,000 for a small, older house with minimum perks, and no remodeling is depressing for anyone who wants to own instead of Rent.

Luigi and I stopped off at Starbuck's this afternoon and looked through the Real Estate section of the Sunday Times, while drinking our coffee and Tea. Looking at really nice homes in nice neighborhoods( NOT Mansions) were priced from about 1.5 Million to about 3 Million or so. That doesn't raise any eyebrows in this part of the country. But as I was scanning the ads I ran into a couple of residences priced at 15 million! What the heck are these places made out of?......Gold?

After our drinks, we piled back into the car and headed for the Whole Foods Market across the street. ("Nobody walks in L.A.") I thought the whole Housing situation here in California is like one big Priceless, bad joke. The moral: If you haven't bought a house by now, you can just forget it! And even if the Housing Market is a bubble that is going to burst soon, it will not go way down by hundreds of thousands of dollars. If we are all lucky, maybe a modest house may(I said 'may') go down to below $500,000?

For the time being we will stay in our Fishbowl and pay HOA fees...............at least we own something.
