I just opened my statement for my new Credit Card that allowed me to do Balance Transfers at 3.99% forever until the Balnce Transfer is paid off. I was also enticed to do another Transfer with 2.99% until next May 2006.
Both Credit Card Companies keep sending me 'Checks' that I can use 'like regular checks'. I just opened one of my Statements today and received more checks. I'm pretty sure that it is a very tempting offer for most people. I tear them up and toss them in the trash. You get hooked into those schemes, and your Major Debt just keeps growing.......................and you wake up one morning and you are on the Suzee Orman Show, crying about how your Credit Card Debt is now hovering above $50,000. This is true. I have watched her show before.
I think, since we are surrounded(the word does not do this explanation justice) by kazillions of Media hype shticks everyday, that it just 'gets' you by the proverbial B's. It hits you while you are waiting for the Signal to change to Green. Either you see an Ad on a passing Bus, or you are staring at a giant Billboard across the street. You walk into a store and ads are on all the time over whatever radio station they have on. You certainly see them on T.V. and hear them on your own car radio.
Bottom line is that we are all suckers, because some smartass Ad Exec dreamed up the slogan "Having it All", and we are biting the hook they are fishing with.
When you just have to have it or you will die urge that gives way to your Kindergarten 'Want it now!', it just makes tons for Credit Card Companies.
I'll just pay off what I had to dole out for my old Car's repairs last fall, and take one day at a time. If you want to get into the psychology of why we are such an undisciplined, juvenile Nation, let me know if you find out.
