Late Night Dribble

PescaraCafe 3.JPG

I cannot imagine that it is already the 24th. Where is the week that was? Why can't I get it together.....and where has the time gone? Who is the idiot that is keeping the Peach from keeping up this Blog? The idiot is me and the reasons for the week's disappearance is Chaos.

I saw a film several months ago, entitled "Changing Lanes". One of the main characters has a 'guide' to help him as he is in Alcoholics Anonymous. The Guide tells this character that his life is chaos and that he revels in it and that it is the only way he can live. The guide, who is suppose to be patient, compassionate and understanding, just shakes his head and walks off. ( Deja Vue--seems as though I have discussed this in another Post) I feel like that chaotic character because I am always on the run, but never seem to get any breathing space. Five new things load up on my plate. I finish off three and 10 more pile on.

When are you suppose to take a breather? At this rate I will need to have another vacation. A trip back to the little seaside village of Pescara on the Adriatic. If I meditate on this photo, maybe I will dream about it.

I'll be optimistic about doing my entry for Italia Part III in the very near future.

Anyway sweet dreams........When the sun rises in a few more hours, you will be reading this, and I will be long gone at a workshop that starts at 8:15 a.m......in Pasadena yet!

New York Moon

luigi-ny-cafe-01.jpg

It is exactly one year this week-end that we went to New York City for a week long vacation. I miss New York. I think I have missed it all year.

We were very lucky to get a great Hotel location right in the 'middle' of the city. We were right around the corner from the David Letterman Show(Ed Sullivan Theater), which is at the beginning of Broadway and about a mile from Times Square.

Across the street (I think we were on 54th Street) was a small corner Grocer . They had about as many of those 'corner Gorcers' in the city as we have Starbucks on almost every corner here in L.A. For me these corner markets were more valuable than any Starbuck's or even any 5 Star Restaurant in the neighborhood.

I love to eat. So every morning I would run across the street and pick up some great eats from their incredible 'food bar' which was up 24 hours a day. There was a zillion food items to pick from. Fruits, vegetables, salads, cold and hot meats, Chinese Food, Mexican, and anything else you could think of. There was also a deli counter.........and every morning I would order 2 fried eggs to go with whatever I picked up at the Food Bar.

I hope you don't think I am a pig or anything. But the Hotel we stayed at offered a European Continental breakfast , with bagels and cream cheese and coffee, tea and juice. I just didn't think it was enough for me to last my New York adventure touring til Luchtime, when I would do it all over again.

We squeezed an awful lot of New York stuff into those eight days. One of the most impressive and memorable things we did was to go to Ground Zero. It had been just over a year after 9/11 and the site was incredible. It was sort of a practice in meditation. There was really nothing else to do but to stare at that huge empty space where two giant towers had once stood. I remember once looking at the list of names of people who died there that day. All those names were people.......and it just kind of hit me suddenly, the cold reality, right there at that spot.

There were large pieces of construction equipment and most of the debris had been cleared out. Someone had taken a couple of iron girders and fashioned them into a cross that stood at the west side of that huge chasm. I am not sure now if it was found that way or if it had been put together. All along the sides were posted the 'Story of the Twin Towers' . Tourists stopped by to read, or to take a picture of the Cross, or to gaze from different angles at the space that once was a powerful, important international business center.

We were across the street for a while, at the Winter Garden which had just reopened a few days before. It had been totally destroyed in the fiery maelstrom. We stopped there with our friends from Brooklyn for some tea and pastries.

There was a long walk back to the subway, as most of the subway stations near by had either been destroyed or were closed for construction. On our walking path toward the next open subway station, was a church a couple of blocks from Ground Zero. All around the entire square area where the church stood, were hundreds of letters, written on t-shirts, hats, messages, all affixed to the fence or walls around the church. Some were dedications to the New York Fire Dept., some were memorials and photos placed by family members or friends of loved ones who had died at Ground Zero.

Luigi and I stopped in a cafe close by where our Hotel was after we got off the subway. Luigi ordered a coffee and pastry and I had a tea. We sort of sat there, staring out the window at the moon, at the New York Neon Lights and all the life and action outside in the city streets. Life was going on as usual.

This past September 11th was a very busy day for me.....thinking of my cousin's surprise party the next day and my Mother's Birthday on Sunday and all the other preparations and junk I had to attend to. I almost forgot what day it was.

It has taken this entry to make me reflect once again the events of September 11, 2001. I suppose it doesn't make a difference that I am a few days late. I am just glad that many of us can take some time out once in a while to remember what happened. It reminds me that, the everyday innocence and security I took for granted my entire life has been changed forever.

Arianna vs. Ahnold--Your Tax Dollars are Working for You!!

I am so excited. I just received my Official Sample Ballot and Voter Instructions in the mail yesterday. How wonderful. California has a special Statewide Special Election on October the 7th..........And I can't wait!

Hey Mom, are you going to vote for a new Governor! Gee, me and Billy wish we were old enough to vote. I saw the Sample Ballot, Mom, and there are so MANY people that are running. How will you know who to vote for?

Let's see, there is Joel Britton, he's a retired Meat Packer. And I love to laugh...so maybe I'll vote for Leo Gallagher...he's a Comedian. What about Larry Flynt? Says he is a publisher....hmm, should have respect for a publisher....Mom says only the guys can appreciate him......whatever....she says he publishes to make men happy....Then there is Mary "Mary Carey" Cook. Says here she is an Adult Film Actress. What's that Mom? Hmmm...says there is a woman running named Diana Foss but it doesn't say what she does or who she is....nothing. Don't they have to say who they are, Mom, to qualify to run for Governor?

There are a lot of actors and entertainers here.....ooh look, there is that Angelyne woman that has her picture on huge Billboards everywhere. Mom says she is an old lady but still wants to have fun...so she makes herself look younger ....Is that what you need to be Governor? I counted 134 candidates total that are running for Governor if Gray Davis gets recalled. It's right here on the Ballot: "Shall Gray Davis be recalled(removed)just in case you didn't know what recalled means from the Office of Governor" Yes or No.(mark your Ballot.)

Underneath that is the list of 134 people who would like to take his place. Mom says she is paying a lot of money in Taxes from her paycheck. And that's where most of it is going this year. To pay for this special election. Mom says it's interesting how the Media, and some people standing outside markets to get people to sign Initiatives, can get people to get all hot and bothered and start to hate Governor Davis for totally destroying the Economy. Mom says most of it is hype and Media garbage. You know , like that Kissy face picture of Madonna and Brittany. Mom saw that interview with Madonna on Oprah, and they showed the 'real' film ( The Media will do anything to build circulation she says.) Anyway the whole country is having problems and California has been having problems before Governor Davis took office. Mom says it's just a scapegoat. Don't know what that means. Must be some kind of a stupid Goat.

Hey Mom, Why is the rest of the country always laughing at California? Are we all weirdos or something? I mean we have really good weather, Mom, and not all Californians are stupid Republicans and Democrats, are we Mom? I mean the rest of the country has some of those too, don't they?

I like the fact that Actors are running. I know they make good Politicians. Because I remember my History, Billy. President Ronald Reagan was an Actor. Those were his credentials. He was too, Billy! You just are not a good History student.
I am going to go watch that Arnold vs. Arianna Movie, now, Billy. You know, that Greek Woman and that Austrian Actor who played the Terminator. You know, Billy......If I could vote, I think I'd vote for Arnold.......he's so cool as the Terminator!!!!! Let's go see Arianna and Arnold
