Sunday Afternoon T.V.

IMG_3338.JPG

Watching T.V, though not a rarity for me, is not an everyday occurance, especially not on a late Sunday morning. However it's been a Zoo of a week, which I am too lazy to talk about. I guess my body was too tired to do anything else. So I just sat there in the kitchen, with my empty bowl of cereal and vitamin container and just surfed the dregs of my non-cable, small T.V. Sunday Programming.

Once you have done your surfing of the 18 or 20 channels that exist, you'll find most can be categorized into two slots. Health and Making Money!....Jack LaLanne's Juicer and Pro-Active(anti-Acne) have been on for eons. The 'WizeTrade' and 'InvestTools' and that woman who promises to turn $10 into $10,000 through Real Estate , are only a few of the infomercials that pop up on my boring non-cable T.V.

But what really cracked me up, and turned my morning into a Saturday Night Live happening was watching the Spanish Station UsedCar Salesmen in action.I feel sorry for those poor imigrants that they rope into buying a late model Used Car for $167 a month, making it sound as though you could drive off with a car so easily. The cars probably have big mileage and a bad financing rate, which does not appear as part of the T.V. come-on. They can reel those poor suckers in with all kinds of hype. One of these ways was to use women, and was hilarious to watch. My knowledge of Spanish is below minimal. But you didn't really have to grasp what they were saying. You only had to watch these'Showcase' women, on cue, show the car on display in their own 'cliche' way.

The 2 women who appeared, on this one particular channel (can't remember -maybe Telemundo) were dressed as though they had just come from the downtown seediest corners to pick up some customers. One of them got into a GMTruck, for example, and carressed the seats, pouted her lips, and moved her face close to the blowing Air Conditioner to let the watching Public know that it works. The Air Conditioner sequence was such a riot. She looked at the camera with her 'pick-up-on-corners' look and placed her arms around herself and shivered to show how cold the Air Conditioner was. I kid you not. All Used Car Lot Commercials can be a little surreal, but I believe that the Hispanic T.V. ones take the cake.

So if you're in the mood to watch a sexy Senorita with a tight 6" skirt and an open blouse getting in and out of GMC trucks...check out your local HIspanic Stations on Sunday mornings.
